Our foster care training courses are delivered by experienced fostering professionals who understand the assessment and preparation involved in becoming a foster carer. They combine structured learning with practical guidance, helping applicants understand the responsibilities of fostering and consider how the role may affect their household.
The training is provided through our regional teams, with staff based across the West Midlands. We have offices in Droitwich and Stoke, while our wider team supports people throughout the region. This local structure means your training forms part of a wider relationship with professionals who understand fostering in the communities they serve.
Course facilitators help explain the knowledge and skills needed before approval, including the responsibilities of foster carers, safeguarding, working with children and young people, and cooperating with the professionals involved in a child’s care. They can also put the learning into context by discussing realistic situations that foster carers may encounter.
Training is not separate from the rest of the fostering process. The professionals delivering it help applicants connect what they learn with the assessment process and with the day-to-day expectations of fostering. This gives you opportunities to reflect on your understanding, raise questions and identify any areas where further explanation may be useful.
The training team also recognises that applicants bring different experiences and levels of confidence. You do not need to arrive with a professional background in childcare to take part. Sessions are intended to prepare you for fostering, clarify what will be expected and help you decide whether the role is suitable for your circumstances.
